I rang Cadbury at the beginning of September and they said, that they still have around 20 % (!!!) of Series 1 animals in the eggs. If you want new animals try the eggs with expire date: 21/8, 22/8 or 5/9/99. Good luck.
Around Christmas we will get Series 3, or at least a few toys I guess, and the new solid characters, the Grumpkins.
