Harry Potter spent the first 10 years of his life
sleeping under the stairs in the home of his aunt and uncle, and
their spoiled pig-like son Dudley, and all of them loathed him for being
different.
Then, Harry Potter discovered that he was a wizard. He then found himself
possessing strange things, such as a snowy owl that carried messages,
a feathered wand, and jellybeans that come in every flavor, including
strawberry, grass, and sardines ...
This is exactly what happens to the young boy in J.K. Rowling's Tolkienesque
series of novels beginning with HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE.
In the non-magical human world of "Muggles", Harry Potter is the odd offspring of
his aunt's dead sister. But in the world of wizards, this skinny spectacled young
boy is famous.
Though his parents were killed by the evil wizard Voldemort, Harry Potter survived.
Left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, he discovers that he
has mysterious powers that remind him that he's altogether different from his
aunt, his uncle, and his cousin Dudley.
Harry Potter's dreary existence in his aunt and uncle's home ends when a letter is
delivered by a friendly giant named Hagrid. It says, "We are pleased to
inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry.
